PETER EAGLE-BOTT
Peter was part of so much in Wissett. You would see him cycling round the village, raising or touching his hat to people with the old fashioned politeness of a man of his generation. Amazingly he didn’t fall off.
He supported Valerie in many church activities and liked to be part of anything that was going on. He was instrumental in raising money for the Bells appeal by just knocking on doors and persuading people to part with a small amount each month. More than half the village contributed to the appeal after Peter had been to call.
We all have our own stories of Peter, seeing him take the cats for a walk, purring at pretty girls, escaping from some event by saying he was dying of malnutrition or it was time for Nanny to give him his bath.
He was a supportive friend but could be irritating at times. His grandchildren wrote of his love for animals and of his ability to turn a short shopping expedition into a long one because he liked to stop and speak to everyone in the street.
Amateur acting came late in life to Peter; he played the part of Cringe the butler brilliantly in one of our fund-raising concerts and recited Albert and the Lion given the smallest opportunity.
He loved music and persuaded people to accompany him and Valerie to concerts in Eye and Beccles. He organised a marvellous concert in Wissett church to raise money for the bells.
His death on October 12th will leave a big hole in our lives.
Valerie, Sarah and Charles are so grateful for all the kindness, help and support which they received before and after Peter’s recent death.
Thank you all very much indeed.

THE BELLS! THE BELLS!
They’re up and ready to ring—in fact they‘ve had a couple of airings already—one at the Test Ring and again for Peter Eagle-Bott’s funeral when a full quarter peal was rung.
Some adjustments will have to be made but it’s lovely to hear them ring out again and they will soon be in regular use. We now have a team of our own bellringers.
Everybody in the village is invited to come to the church to the re-dedication of the bells by Bishop Nigel. This will be on December 6th at 3 o’clock. A glass of wine and cakes and sandwiches will refresh you after the service

BOOK BY LOCAL AUTHOR!
James
Hayward, living with his wife, Pauline, at April Cottage, has
produced a fascinating illustrated study of the Gypsies and their
Language entitled GYPSY JIB: A ROMANY DICTIONARY. Who are the
Gypsies? Where do they come from? How did their language evolve?
Take a look at the website http://www.gypsy-jib.com
for more details.
James has unlocked some of the secrets of this
puzzling language, through a lifetime of research into his own
Gypsy heritage. He shows how the Gypsies have survived centuries
of persecution and hardship, finally recording the words and phrases
still in use today by these proud people.
Gypsy Jib will be available after the second week of December,
priced £14, from James at his second hand bookshop next
to The Angel Hotel in Halesworth.
